Tuesday 9th September 2008 – Vrchlabi, Czech Republic

We set up the Garmin satellite navigation with our destination and drove off. Having suffered from a total lack of Garmin map detail in Bulgaria and Romania rendering the device total useless, here we had too much detail. The Garmin told be to turn left on a dozen occasions when there was only a dirt farm track or even just a grass strip between fields! Eventually we came to a proper asphalted road on the left and the Garmin was happy for the remainder of the journey.
We arrived at 'Euro Air Camp', Vrchlabi and discovered the reason for the name – it was on the opposite side of the road from an airstrip. There is a very active gliding club based there and we watched the majestic planes flying over the campsite to land with just a very gentle whooshing sound announcing their presence.
