On to Bari for the ferry to Patras. The journey took us past
many castles on a pretty route – a mixture of non-toll motorway and ordinary
roads. We arrived early, parked up and checked in – a simple process, for a
change. We had a couple of hours before boarding but our parking space had a
lovely cooling breeze coming off the sea.
The ferry ‘Superfast II’ is the smallest of their fleet and we had to do the
normal reversing into position on the deck. This time that involved getting into a small space between another
motorhome and a caravan but we were expertly guided by a deckhand.
The ferry was also the oldest in their fleet and I didn’t have high hopes for
the quality of the cabins or fittings but they were actually very good. Our
outside cabin was spacious and overlooked the bow – the captain must have been
just above us. We had our first ouzo of the holiday in the bar and then had a
meal in the self-service restaurant. I have to say that the food was only
‘okay’, served at Greek temperature (lukewarm). We would have been better off
with one of the salads that looked very good.
