Our good friends, Dave and Anne, were our neighbours in
Somerset before they decided on “one last adventure” and moved to France. They
are both fluent in French and had lived in France for a number of years before.
They spent time looking at properties before selecting a house in a rural
location in Rouffignac-Saint-Cernin-de-Reilhac.
We drove the 20 minutes to Rouffignac for a reunion with Dave and Anne. They
gave us a tour of the house that they are part way through renovating and
adapting to their needs. It is a lovely house with wonderful views over the
countryside. There are a number of outbuildings, one of which is a
self-contained gite and another contains a very large bread oven. Dave wants to
restore the oven and I would love to bake some bread in it.
Dave and Anne took us to the small hilltop Mediaeval town of Belves and we had
a pleasant wander around it before returning for a meal at their house.
It was a lovely day with Dave and Anne – lots of chat, catching up with their
news and giving them news from Somerset. Dave helped us to connect the van to
the electric supply and we retired to sleep in the van.
