We are delighted to be off on another sojourn, this time to
France, wending an unplanned and, no doubt, erratic route to Alsace Lorraine.
Our sojourn to Greece earlier in the year was disrupted by P&O sacking all
of their staff and cancelling all of their sailings. This resulted in an urgent
change to travel by the Channel Tunnel. This worked out very well and the new
staff on the return P&O trip were very pleasant. However, we were very
unimpressed by the way that P&O treated their staff and decided to try
other ferry operators for this trip.
We travelled to France on Irish Ferries and were impressed. We paid £12 each to
go into the Club Class lounge where unlimited snacks and drinks (coffee, tea,
soft drinks and wine) were available free of any additional charge. The lounge
was very comfortable, the food was good and there were only two other people in
it. As it was lunchtime, we took full advantage of the food and drinks and
considered it to be good value.
We left slightly before the advertised departure time and, after a very smooth
crossing, arrived in Calais. We drove South for a couple of hours, reaching
Incheville and its aire that is on the banks of a large fishing lake. We had
time for a wander along the banks before cooking dinner and settling down for
the night.
