Saturday 8th October 2022 – Monthermé, France

We drove from Sedan to Charleville-Mezieres where, north of the town we started driving up the meanders of the Meuse that go up to the Belgian border. According to the Green Guide the section of the Meuse from Charleville-Mezieres to Givet is the most picturesque part of the Meuse but the section to Monthermé was not very impressive. There were few glimpses of the river although it was pretty when we saw it. The river was more evident as we approached Monthermé and we spotted the aire on the opposite bank where the river took a long lazy loop around the town. Although there are no motorhome services here (water and dumping), this is a lovely aire, quiet and with great views of the river. We had a wander around the town on both sides of the river and then sat in the van enjoying the view.

Photos: Two views of the Meuse at Monthermé with the aire visible in both; Moon rise through the trees.
