We
thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Weissenburg and the stellplatz was very good –
level pitch, electricity and free. Whilst we were there, there was no dumping
or fresh water available due to damage to the facilities. They have plans to
replace the equipment by the end of the year.
We drove to a nearby Lidl and bought a few essentials and then drove on to
Gunzenhausen, which was only half an hour away. There was light mist in
Weissenburg but we were soon in bright sunshine as we drove through open
countryside with wide views.
The Fischer-Michl Campsite is almost on the banks of the Altmuhlsee, a lake
created by the damming of the Altmuhl river. Very conveniently, the campsite
allows visitors to arrive between 11:00 and 12:00 before they have a 3-hour
break when reception is closed. We arrived just after 11:00 and were allocated
a very pleasant pitch in the sun. Although the forecast was for a maximum of 16°C,
there was very little breeze and it was positively warm when we sat out for
lunch.
We took a short walk down to the Altmuhlsee before settling down for the
evening.
