Time to leave the Wild West and go further west to another
country. The weather was not good although the rain did hold off for the first
part of the journey to the coast beside the national park and then along the
coast towards Huelva. We were expecting to see the sea but only caught one
glimpse as there was an area of high sand dunes and pine trees (more national
park) between the road and the coast. We turned inland before Huelva and
travelled through a vast area of market gardens and poly-tunnels that continued
for miles, stretching out on both sides of the road. Amongst other crops, the
sandy soil seemed to be good for asparagus and this was most prominent.
We joined the main E1/A49 motorway and took it through to
Portugal. The weather was dreadful with torrential rain that, combined with the
very strong winds buffeting the van, meant that we had to reduce speed
considerably on the motorway.
The weather had improved by the time that we were
approaching Val do Lobo. The sat nav took us almost to the door of the villa,
which was very useful as we hadn’t realised how huge the resort was.
Immaculately landscaped, the holiday complex consists of villas of all shapes
and sizes from low-rise flats to enormous individual, architect-designed houses
all amongst two international championship standard golf courses. It is very
pretty but also a rabbit warren of roads, all of which look rather similar – a
great recipe for getting lost!
Les & Les greeted us and we went to check out the villa.
It is lovely – three good-sized bedrooms, three bathrooms and a lovely terrace
and swimming pool. We pick up Peg & John from the airport tomorrow but now
we can unpack from the van and occupy all of that space!
There will be a gap in the blog for the next week whilst we
relax and enjoy time with our friends.
