Tuesday 4th September 2007

Said goodbye to Simon & Katie at 07:30 – somebody has to work and pay the taxes!
Left Bracknell at 09:30 for Calais, arriving at 11:45 and succeeded in getting an earlier boat (12:15 rather than 13:45).
French motorways are empty but cost £7.50 to get down to Arras.
2 miles short of our destination, I wound down the driver's window to pay the toll – it wouldn't go back up. This was a reoccurrence of an intermittent problem that we had previously. Abbey Garage in Street had two attempts to repair this and finally replaced the window switch. This appeared to cure the problem but, given that it was intermittent, we were never sure. After arriving at the campsite, I took off the blind fittings and the interior panel of the driver's door. I then inspected the driver's window switch. I could still see the marks on the switch that I made when I first attempted to repair it. Abbey had either not replaced the switch or they had replaced the one for the passenger window next to it! Wait until I see them at Christmas!
The campsite 'Camping La Paille-Haute' at Boiry-Notre-Dame was very good. Pleasant views over open farmland, close to a village. Site very tidy with shrubs and tree cover, if wanted. Good washing facilities and pool. Basic bar/restaurant on site and bakery in village but no shops or restaurants in the village. Cost 18E including electricity.
