We decided to visit Dinard (opposite St. Malo) today by bus,
leaving Henrietta at the Dinan aire. We had read that the aire charged 60 cents
per hour between 09:00 and 18:00 with free parking overnight but the daytime
charges were much more, costing us €21 to stay for the whole day. We now
realised why most vans left this morning! It probably would have been better
for us to drive to Dinard this morning and book into one of the campsites such
as the municipal campsite on the edge of the town.
We walked up the steep path again and across the town to the Place Duclos where we caught the bus just after 10:00. It was fun to travel through the villages and we arrived at Dinard before 11:00. The main attractions of the town are the promenades and the very impressive mansions built along the coast. The views are fantastic, across the Rance river to the walled town of St. Malo and also out to sea to the many islets beyond the Rance estuary. We walked the three major promenades – Clair de Lune, Pointe du Moulinet and Pointe de la Malouine, cutting back inland across the latter so that we could take a closer look at the mansions. Being on hills, many of the mansions have fantastic views and the architecture is really varied and interesting.
The weather forecast suggested that it was going to get very warm during the day. When we left the van this morning is was a cool 7°C and we were wearing jumpers but these were soon removed once we were in Dinard and by the end of the afternoon, a hot breeze was blowing and the temperature was 27°C. In the morning we were trying to walk in the sun and by the afternoon we were seeking the shade!
