Saturday 22nd September 2018 – Treguier, Brittany, France

The weather forecasters said it was going to be a very wet day and they weren’t wrong. It rained a lot during the night and during the day but, fortunately, there were periods when it didn’t rain although it was never sunny. Late morning we walked from the aire up into the town and had a good look around. There was a funeral being held in the cathedral so we did a tour of the rest of the town, admiring the many old buildings, often half-timbered. There are some impressive churches in the town and also a very large Augustine abbey. Returning to the main square, we found that the funeral service had finished and we were able to visit the cathedral. The tomb of St. Yves is there together with other important individuals who wanted to be buried close to him.
There are a number of good restaurants in the town and, as it was raining and we didn’t have anything else to do, we decided to have a meal in one of them. We chose ‘Le Bistro D’Ernest’ in a square just off the main square. We had an excellent meal and would certainly go back if we ever stay here again. Needless to stay, it stopped raining as soon as we entered the restaurant and didn’t start again until just after we left. Despite this we continued our tour of the town, going down to the port through one of the town gates and finding a large group of people, mainly men, playing boules on a large area of gravel. The rain became heavier and more persistent, so we returned to Henrietta and hunkered down.
