We got to the Channel Tunnel early with the intention of
trying to get an earlier shuttle but there was a very long queue to register
and we received a warning that there may be a delay in our departure. Initially
it showed a 30 minute delay, then 20 minutes early but eventually we were
delayed by over an hour.
We shared our carriage with three very smart Porsche sports cars that were on
their way to a Porsche endurance race in Belgium. They were about 20 Porsches
in the group – they weren’t competing but wanted to watch the race and they
also hoped to get some time on the racetrack. They were in the single-level
carriages because their very limited ground clearance meant that they couldn’t
use the upper deck of the car carriages.
We were heading to an aire in Luxembourg but the journey was tortuous, with
many roadworks and long delays. We made a note not to use the same route when
we return.
At 19:30 we arrived at Rumelange and the aire near the mining museum. We have
used the aire before and knew that it was a good, quiet aire. Another couple of
motorhomes joined us and we settled down for the night.
Photos: Definitely a case of the hares and the tortoise.
