Although our Dover – Calais ferry didn't leave until 13:45, we decided to leave early as this was the first day back at work for many people and heavy traffic was suggested. I have rarely found that the 'traffic' setting on the radio to be of any help but, in this case, it was extremely useful. Travelling along the A303 we heard that the M3 was blocked in our direction. The advanced warning meant that we were able to leave the M3 before the blockage and head across to the M25 via Guildford. Although this delayed us, it was not serious and we arrived in plenty of time.
On the ferry they announced that the crossing was 'moderate' and, not being a good sailor, this was somewhat of a concern. However, 'moderate' obviously meant that there were some waves as opposed to dead calm – the crossing was absolutely fine.
We decided to travel the short distance down to the Montreuil campsite that we stayed at before Christmas. We arrived before dark and were quickly installed on a plot on the riverside opposite the ruins of some watermills.
