A warm, dry start to the day with a good weather forecast –
T-shirt weather!
There was lots of blog writing, washing and chores but also some relaxing. I
got the table and chairs out for the first time on the holiday. The reason that
I hadn’t done before was partly because the weather had been so bad but also
because, when the weather was good, we were staying in aires where the rules do
not allow tables and chairs to be put out. Given our route, aires were our only
option – there were occasional campsites but they were all closed at this time
of year.
In the afternoon, we took a walk to the sea. Across the road from the campsite,
we walked straight into the nature reserve, a large expanse of wetland that
reminded us of the Somerset Levels at home. Here, the wetland was separated
from the sea by a large expanse of white, shelly sand. Waves were pounding the
beach and we looked out to many moored tankers and container ships. To the
left, in the distance, was the port of Valencia. In the Summer, the beach would
have been full of holidaymakers swimming and sunbathing but the sea wasn’t
inviting today. There were excellent, paved walking and cycling tracks between
the beach and the wetlands and many walkers and cyclists were taking advantage
of them.
At 21:00 the rain arrived together with thunder and lightning. We were very
happy with that – dry during the day and rain at night is okay with us.
