Today was an excellent example of the varied route provided by the satnav. It took us off major roads and onto the D480 through very pleasant countryside past a number of impressive chateaux. It was lunchtime and Jane spotted an official picnic area just off the road outside the village of Chavroches. The weather was lovely again - cloudless blue sky and warm, so we took our food to one of the picnic tables and ate lunch looking at the countryside and a chateau on the hill behind us.
The afternoon driving took us just west of Lyon to the historic town of Yzeron where there is an aire below the town, next to a fishing lake. The last part of the journey was through hilly country with lots of valleys and views with farms that reminded us of Italian mountain architecture. We had time to walk up into Yzeron and admire the architecture and a glorious (if slightly hazy) view of the flat lands to the north and east. We enjoyed small beers in a very busy bar in the village square, sat in the sun watching the world go by.
