Time for some exercise! We decided to walk to Ladis, the
village above Prutz with its castle overlooking the valley. We took the path
close to the campsite and climbed steeply, admiring the views, flowers and
fungi on the way. Arriving at the village, we came to the small lake in front
of the castle where there was obviously swimming in the summer and, we suspect,
ice skating in the winter. We weren’t able to visit the castle as it was closed
but we did have a wander around the old part of the village with its lovely
painted houses.
The main footpath down to Prutz turned out to be precipitous, which was too
much for Jane, so we decided to use the road and join a footpath lower down.
This was fine until we got to the track that should have taken us back to Prutz
but there was a very clear sign saying that the track was closed to vehicles
and people. There followed a long, hot walk down a fairly busy road until we
reached Ried, the next village up the valley from Prutz. We found a bus stop
and caught the next bus back to Prutz.
We decided to eat in the campsite restaurant but I have to say that it was
disappointing – fried food and poor beer.
Photos: One of the lovely views on the walk up to Ladis; Ladis was celebrating Autumn and this was one of the installations around the village – the lake and castle in the background; One of the painted houses – Adam & Eve are represented in the top row, second from the right; The whole family and friends were involved in herding the cattle from the fields to the farm and attempting to stop the cows eating the flowers!
