Saturday 15th September 2007

A day of chores and relaxation. Washing, vacuuming, cleaning, fixing the cab cup holder hinges – I am becoming quite a DIY man! A BBQ lunch of Kingairloch venison sausages (a little Scottish culture in the Fatherland) was probably inspired by the deer farm over the other side of the valley. We had extended our stay at Halbmeil, partly due to its proximity to other site but also because of the facilities that the site offered – excellent, clean showers with plenty of hot water with walking directly from the site. We didn't have to drive anywhere.
The site also had an English part-time resident – Rolf was half German and used to work for British Gas before his part of the company was sold many times. In the end, he got fed up of the ownership changes and took early retirement. Having lost his wife earlier this year he was trying to decide whether to move out to Germany permanently. We also met his sister and brother-in-law, Tony and Christel who were visiting Rolf. Tony took a job in microchip QA with a company based in Southern Austria very close to both the Italian and Slovenian borders. They have now sold their house in Poole and have bought a very large house in Austria for a fraction of the cost of an equivalent house in England. They very kindly gave us their address and suggested that we might want to visit when we pass their area – an offer that we would love to accept, perhaps some time next year on the way back North from Greece.
