Decided to head for Weissenburg as it seemed to figure highly in Roman interest and was relatively close. Plotted a route via Pfunz on the outskirts of Eichstatt but discovered the the Germans all have their equivalent of 'Route Barree' and went on a long diversion, more that doubling the expected distance to Pfunz. It was worth it! The (partial) reconstruction of the fort was very well done and well presented with lots of information boards, all in German but we were able to glean the relevant information. There was no charge for entrance, in fact the site was completely open. I can't help feeling that, if the site had been in England, it would have been vandalised but there was no sign of that here.
On to Weissenburg and another site from Camperstop Europe. This time the total cost was €1 for water and the site was within 100m of the entrance to the moated Medieval town. Spent the late afternoon / early evening walking around the old town, lovely weather making the sightseeing even more enjoyable.
